Hutchinson Central Christian Cougar boys advance to Class 1A DII sub-state semifinals

The 2024-25 basketball season will continue for the Hutchinson Central Christian boys squad with a 63-47 victory over No. 1-seed Weskan in the Kansas Class 1A Division II Dighton sub-state #1 semifinal game Monday night at Goodland’s Max Jones Fieldhouse.

Brady Froese led the Cougars with 21 points. Jayden Linscheid scored 13 points and Cal Barnett 12.

Piercen Huff and Luke Eigski scored 6 points apiece, Ryland Kooiman 4 and Hunter Franz 1.

“The guys played a great game,” said Hutchinson Central Christian boys basketball coach Adam Clark. “Jayden Linshied had 12 rebounds tonight.”

Trey Allen led the Weskan Coyotes with 21 points. Judah Crow, Nick Cottrell and Eli Aldridge each scored 8 and Karsyn Wright 2.

Central Christian led 16-10 in the first quarter, 28-26 at halftime and 45-34 at the end of the third quarter. The Cougars outscored the Coyotes 18-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Central Christian Cougars (10-10) will play Sharon Springs (12-8) in the sub-state championship Saturday at Dighton (game time to be determined).

Sharon Springs defeated Western Plains 64-34 in the other Dighton sub-state #1 semifinal game Monday at Ransom.

Weskan finished the season with a 17-4 record and Western Plains finished 11-8.

The season came to an end for the Pretty Prairie High School boys basketball in the Kansas Class 1A Division I sub-state #2 semifinals Monday night at Montezuma with a 56-32 loss to South Gray.

The Bulldogs, who defeated Pratt-Skyline 39-36 in the first round Feb. 24 at Pretty Prairie, finished the season with a 15-7 record.

The Little River boys defeated Colony-Crest 48-39 Monday night at the Colony-Crest gymnasium and will play for a Class 1A Division I sub-state title Saturday night against Oxford (55-37 winners in the semifinals over Sedan). Little River improved to 14-7.

In the Class 1A District II Attica sub-state #1 semifinals Monday, No. 1 Cunningham defeated Ingalls 59-25 and Kiowa-South Barber defeated Minneola 69-64 in overtime.

Cunningham (20-0) plays Kiowa-South Barber (9-11) for the sub-state title Saturday night at Attica.

HutchCC women’s basketball 9th, men’s basketball receives votes, baseball 21st, softball not ranked

The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team (26-3) moved up to No. 9 from No. 11 in the latest NJCAA division I poll released on Monday.

The Blue Dragons will play No. 7 Dodge City (also 26-3) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Coffeyville CC (23-5) and Butler CC (22-6) are ranked 20th and 25th.

The Hutchinson CC men’s basketball team (19-10) received votes in the latest NJCAA Men’s DI poll.

The Cowley College (26-3) men are ranked fifth. Barton CC (23-6) is ranked 14th and Coffeyville (21-8) is ranked 21st.

The Hutchinson CC baseball team, which started the season 9-0 and is 11-2 overall, stayed at No. 21 in the latest NJCAA DI baseball poll released on Monday.

Cowley College (9-2) is ranked 12th. The Tigers were ranked 18th in the previous week’s poll.

The HutchCC softball team (8-4) dropped out of the NJCAA Division I poll. The Blue Dragons were ranked No. 22 last week.

Butler CC (6-0) is ranked 14th.

The Blue Dragons played a single game Tuesday at Hesston College and then play a four-game series against Dodge City.

 The Dragons play a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Dodge City Thursday and play a 1 p.m. twinbill Saturday at home against the Conquistadors.

The Blue Dragon softball team plays a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Butler Community College on Wednesday and hosts a 2 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Fun Valley against Labette Community College.
