Six Buhler High School wrestlers will be competing at state meets Friday and Saturday — three boys and three girls.
Three boys qualified for the Kansas Class 4A boys state wrestling by placing at the Abilene regional during the weekend.
Cruz Hershberger (33-7) placed first at 144 pounds and was named Co-Regional Wrestler of the Year. Luke Kerns (41-7) placed first at 165 pounds and Sammy Hershberger (31-7) placed second at 132 pounds.
Three Crusader girls will compete at the state girls championships — Lillie Ledford (31-6) at 135 pounds, Maliyah Jackson (17-20) at 140 pounds and Macey Parks (34-6) at 145 pounds.
The Class 4A state girls and boys wrestling tournaments will take place Friday and Saturday at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
Lyons, Haven wrestlers qualify for Class 3-1A state meet
Several area wrestlers qualified for the Kansas Class 3-1A state championships from the regional at Hoisington.
Lyons placed third in the team standings with 109.5 points and Haven placed seventh with 74 points.
The Class 3-1A state meet is Friday and Saturday at Fort Hays State University’s Gross Memorial Stadium.
106: Justin Lee, Lyons, 2nd; Dante De Virgilio, Haven, 4th.
120: Easton Benavidez, Lyons, 3rd.
126: Jacob Moore (32-2), Haven, 1st.
132: Tanner Loughrie, Haven, 3rd.
144: Isaac Fall, Lyons, 4th.
150: Jace Grizzle (35-2), Lyons, 1st.
Halstead’s Considine and Herman, Nickerson’s Monroe qualify for 4A state boys wrestling meet
Halstead’s Clayton Considine (3rd place at 132 pounds) and Connor Herman (2nd place 285) and Nickerson’s Kristopher Monroe (3rd place 165) qualified for the Class 4A state championships from the Rose Hill regional (held Friday and Saturday).
Considine has won 150 career matches and will make his fourth appearance at state. Herman is making his third state meet appearance. Monroe is making his second straight state meet appearance.
Nickerson wrestlers Aiden Brinkley (113 pounds) and Conner White (144 pounds) both fell one match short of qualifying for state.
Also competing for Nickerson at the Rose Hill regional were Addrick Nelson, 126; Dakota Brinkley, 132; Aden Taylor, 138; Aden Vedder, 150; Calvin White, 157; Kobane Swift, 175; and Atton Nelson, 190.
Nickerson’s Elizabeth Dick (235 pounds) will compete at the Class 4A state girls wrestling tournament.
Hutchinson senior Logan Most enables Salthawks to place 25th at 5-1A state swim meet
Hutchinson High School senior Logan Most placed 11th in the 500-yard freestyle at the Class 5-1A state meet Friday and Saturday with a time of 5 minutes, 18.32 seconds, and was 12th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 54.97 seconds.
Most cut 8 seconds off his previous personal-best 500 time.
Most scored 11 points at the state swim meet, enabling the Salthawks to place 25th out of 44 teams. He was the only Salthawk state qualifier.
The Kansas Class 6A and Kansas Class 5-1A state swimming and diving meets took place at the Shawnee Mission District Aquatic Center.
Buhler swimmers place 8th at 5-1A state swim meet
The Buhler High School boys swim team placed eighth with 115 points at the Class 5-1A state meet Friday and Saturday.
The Kansas Class 6A and Kansas Class 5-1A state swimming and diving meets took place at the Shawnee Mission District Aquatic Center.
The Buhler 200-yard medley relay team of Hudson DeWeese, Jonah Gardner, Marshall Birney and Payton Frees placed fifth with a time of 1:43.9.
The Crusaders’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gardner, Birney, DeWeese and Frees placed sixth with time of 1:31.51.
The Buhler 400-yard freestyle relay team of DeWeese, Frees, Birney and Gardner placed sixth with time of 3:26.57.
Gardner placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.13.
DeWeese placed eighth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.58.
Buhler’s Scott Schweizer placed 11th in the 1-meter diving competition with 279.65 points.
Also competing for the Crusaders were Isaak Neighbor in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly and Eli White in the 100-yard backstroke.
Andover won the 5-1A state championship with 318 points. Wichita Kapaun-Mount Carmel placed second with 210 points.
Blue Dragon softball team 1-3 on road trip
After not playing for two weeks because of wintry weather, the Hutchinson Community College softball team posted a 1-3 record during a weekend road trip.
The Blue Dragons were swept by a powerful Murray State College team on Saturday and split a doubleheader against North Central Texas College on Sunday.
The Blue Dragons (4-4), ranked No. 22 in NJCAA Division I, lost to Murray State College 10-2 and 14-0 Saturday in Tishomingo, Okla..
Hutchinson lost 1-0 and won 9-3 at Gainesville, Texas, Sunday afternoon against North Central Texas College.
Ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division II, Murray State hit a combined five home runs to take both ends of a doubleheader from the Blue Dragons on Day 1 of their annual Oklahoma-Texas swing.
Hutchinson will host a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader against Pratt Community College at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the new artificial turf playing surface at Fun Valley.
Hutchinson plays a 2 p.m. doubleheader next Saturday at Goodland against Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
