The Hutchinson Central Christian High School girls and boys basketball teams host Norwich on Tuesday and Pretty Prairie on Friday,
The Cougar girls defeated Solomon 55-22 Friday night and the Central Christian boys lost 49-29.
Avery Duft led the Central Christian girls with 14 points. Jessa Losew scored 13 points and Avery Kauffman 10. Reese Swanson grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Cougar girls improved to 10-4 and the Cougar boys dropped to 7-7.
In addition to the Hutchinson Central Christian-Norwich games Tuesday, Hutchinson hosts Maize South, Hutchinson Trinity Catholic plays at Wichita Central Christian Academy, Buhler hosts El Dorado, Nickerson plays at Andale, Inman plays at Hesston, Sterling plays at Wichita Classical, Haven hosts Pratt, Langdon-Fairfield plays at Cunningham, Burrton hosts Pretty Prairie and Lyons hosts Ellsworth.
Five Halstead High School seniors commit to play college sports
Five Halstead High School seniors have announced commitments to compete in athletes at the college level for the 2025-26 school year.
They are football players Connor Herman and Joey Millspaugh, Friends University; softball players Brett Young, Southeast Community College (Beatrice, Neb.) and Kaci Young, Hutchinson Community College; and volleyball player Dalaina Schutte, Bethel College.
Hutchinson JV boys, varsity girls wrestlers compete at Larned Invitational
In addition to several wrestlers competing at the Rocky Welton Tournament in Garden City during the weekend, the Hutchinson High School wrestling team had junior varsity boys and varsity girls competing at the Larned Invitational.
Hutchinson’s Karson Etienne placed first in the 165-pound boys weight class with a 4-0 record.
Placing second were Tommy Perkins, 4-1 at 106 pounds; Titan Crabbs, 1-1 at 113; and Ashtun Lemonds, 4-1 at 190. Placing third were Damien Nusser, 0-3 at 113; Jaxon Bruce, 4-2 at 138; and Jayden Tuchardt, 3-3 at 190.
Placing fourth were Cooper Hart, 2-3 at 132; and Chris Evans, 4-1 at 157. Placing sixth was Sam Smalley, 3-2 at 138; and Kaiden Pettijohn, 1-3 at 165. Placing seventh was Lucas Schlen, 0-4 at 215.
Placing eighth was Cruz Ibarra, 2-3 at 165. Placing ninth was Cyrus Penny, 1-4 at 175. Placing 10th was Hayden Von Ahjnen, 0-5 at 175. Placing 13th was Sam Lipani, 1-3 at 138.
In the 105-pound girls division, Hutchinson’s Eco Kinast placed fifth at 105 pounds with a 3-2 record and Natalie White placed seventh with a 1-4 record.
Not placing were Isabel Castaneda, 0-4 at 115 pounds; Emma Mathias, 3-2 at 135; and Annie Keyser, 0-4 at 145.
