Snow, ice and hazardous driving conditions throughout the state of Kansas, including the Hutchinson Tribune coverage area, have wiped out most of the state’s high school basketball schedule for Tuesday night.
The Hutchinson Salthawk girls and boys basketball teams (both with 3-1 records) were scheduled to play at Maize South on Tuesday, but those games have been postponed.
“We will not play Tuesday due to weather,” said Hutchinson High school athletic director Steve Kappenman. “We will work on rescheduling with Maize South.”
Hutchinson is scheduled to play at Salina South on Friday night. Schools in the Salina school district (USD 305) did not have school Monday and won’t have school Tuesday.
The Salina South girls are 3-3 and the Salina South boys are 2-4.
The Hutchinson High School wrestling team will have practice at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Other Tuesday night games of interest in the area have been postponed:
• Buhler (USD 313) canceled school Tuesday because of poor road conditions. The Crusader girls and boys basketball games against Towanda-Circle (USD 375) have been postponed until a later date. A decision on Crusader basketball practices will be made by noon Tuesday.
• The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic girls and boys were scheduled to play at Sterling Tuesday night, but Hutchinson Catholic Schools have been canceled Tuesday. Sterling (USD 376) also canceled school Tuesday because of weather-related concerns.
• According to the KSHSAA website and MaxPreps, the Hutchinson Central Christian girls and boys basketball teams do not play until Tuesday, Jan. 14, when the Cougars host Attica.
• The Nickerson girls and boys basketball teams were scheduled to host Haven Tuesday night. Both Haven (USD 312) and Nickerson-South Hutchinson (USD 309) canceled school and activities for Tuesday due to dangerous driving conditions. The games will be rescheduled at a later date.
• Pretty Prairie schools (USD 311) have been canceled for Tuesday. The Bulldog girls and boys basketball teams were scheduled to play at Udall. No rescheduling date has been set.
• The Burrton boys basketball team scheduled to play a game at Argonia Tuesday, but Burrton schools (USD 369) are closed Tuesday. No information was provided by Argonia.
• The Halstead girls and boys basketball teams were scheduled to play at Abilene Tuesday, but Halstead-Bentley (USD 440) will be closed on Tuesday. Abilene (USD 435) also does not have school Tuesday.
According to the USD 435 website, Abilene received more than 16 inches of snow overnight Sunday.
Halstead’s athletic director Nick Barnes said the Halstead vs. Abilene girls and boys basketball games at Abilene have been postponed to Jan. 28.
• The Fairfield girls and boys home basketball games scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. Neither Langdon-Fairfield (USD 310) nor Chase-Raymond (USD 410) do not have school Tuesday.
• The Little River vs. Herington girls and boys games at Little River Tuesday were postponed until a later date. Herington (USD 487) and Little River-Windom (USD 444) canceled school Tuesday due to safety concerns related to weather and ice.
• The Lyons-Minneapolis girls and boys basketball games scheduled for Tuesday at Lyons have been canceled because of the weather. Lyons schools (USD 405) and North Ottawa Public Schools (USD 239 Minneapolis and Delphos) are closed on Tuesday.
• The Inman (USD 448) vs. Ell-Saline (USD 307) boys and girls basketball games are postponed because both schools have canceled classes and activities Tuesday.
• The Cunningham vs. Macksville girls and boys basketball games Tuesday at Macksville will be postponed because of weather-related concerns. Cunningham schools (USD 332) will open two hours late Tuesday.
• The Cheney vs. Hesston girls and boys basketball games at Cheney have been rescheduled for Feb. 10. Both Cheney and Hesston canceled school Tuesday.
• The Andale High School boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to host El Dorado Tuesday night. While El Dorado has canceled classes and activities Tuesday, no information was posted by Andale.
• On Friday, Inman hosts Wichita Classical, Hutchinson Trinity Catholic hosts Marion, Haven plays at Pratt, Buhler hosts Winfield, Sterling plays at Moundridge, Burrton plays at Cunningham, Pretty Prairie plays at Caldwell and Little River hosts Peabody-Burns (boys only). Saturday night, the Little River girls and boys teams host St. John.
