The Haven High School girls and boys basketball teams both improved to 7-0 by beating Norton Friday at the Norton Stull Gymnasium.
The Haven girls won 38-28 and the Wildcat boys won 50-29.
Sienna DeFrain led the Wildcats with 16 points. Haven’s Avery Brawner scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
The Haven boys are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and the girls are ranked No. 3 in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association polls released on Dec. 17. The next KBCA polls will be released on Tuesday.
The Haven junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Norton 66-37.
The Haven teams will play at Nickerson on Tuesday.
Nickerson teams fall to Cheney
The Nickerson High School girls and boys basketball teams were swept by Cheney Friday night at the Nickerson gymnasium.
The Cheney girls won 71-5 and the Cheney boys won 68-29.
The Nickerson girls trailed Cheney 21-3 after one quarter and 38-4 at halftime.
Cheney led 56-5 at the end of the third quarter. The Cardinal girls outscored Nickerson 15-0 in the fourth quarter.
In the varsity boys game, Cheney led 16-7 after the first quarter and 36-19 at halftime.
The Cardinals increased their lead to 59-24 at the end of the third quarter. Cheney outscored the Panthers 9-5 in the fourth quarter.
The Nickerson girls and boys teams host Haven on Tuesday.
Great Bend Panther squads split with Liberal
The Great Bend High School boys basketball team rolled past Liberal 89-42 Friday night and the Liberal girls defeated the Panthers 73-44.
The Hutchinson Salthawks host the Great Bend Panthers on Jan. 17 at the Salthawk Activity Center.
