Nate Dreiling, who served as the interim head coach at Utah State during the 2024 season, was named defensive coordinator at FBS Division I school Arkansas State University.

Arkansas State went 8-5 in 2024 and defeated Bowling Green 38-31 in the 68 Ventures Bowl Dec. 26 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

The head coach for the Arkansas State Wolves is Butch Davis, the former head coach at Tennessee, Cincinnati and Central Michigan.

Dreiling, a Hutchinson/Victoria native who was an all-state pick for his legendary father Randy at Hutchinson High School, was a four-time All-American linebacker at Pittsburg State.

Dreiling was hired as Utah State’s defensive coordinator for the 2024 season before being promoted to interim head coach.

During his stint as the head coach at Utah State, Dreiling led the Aggies to a 4-8 record. The Aggies won three of their final five games, including a win at Wyoming — the first win over a rival by Utah State since 2019.

The Arkansas State post will be Dreiling’s third stint as a defensive coordinator at the FBS level.

Dreiling spent two years spent as the defensive coordinator at New Mexico State, followed by last season at Utah State.

Dreiling’s coaching path also has included Humboldt High School, the University of Kansas, Pittsburg State University, University of Oregon and Southeast Missouri State University.

The high school boys basketball games scheduled for Tuesday night between Berean Academy and Sedgwick at Sedgwick have been canceled.

“We will not be playing any boys basketball games that evening because of a KSHSAA violation, Rule 30, Article 6, that occurred during the  alumni basketball scrimmage over the holiday break,” according to a statement from Sedgwick Public Schools. “We should not have kept score nor kept the clock and we did.”
