Four Hutchinson High School Salthawk wrestlers won their weight classes at the Emporia Winter Classic Saturday.
The Salthawks were edged out by 1 point by the Emporia High School wrestling team 211-210 for the team title. Buhler placed third with 158.5 points and Nickerson place seventh with 96 points.
Hutchinson sophomores Max Harris and Cooper Harris won the 150- and 157-pound weight classes with 3-0 records.
Senior Kade Smith won the 165-pound weight class with a 3-0 record. Junior Jackson Anderson went 3-0 to win the 175-pound weight class.
Second-place finishers with 2-1 records were freshman 106-pounder Tommy Perkins, sophomore 113-pounder Cruz Cannon and freshman 132-pounder Kameron Wilson.
Junior Ayden Robidoux placed third at 144 pounds with a 3-1 record. Senior Skylar Ray placed third at 215 pounds with a 3-1 record.
Senior 138-pounder Alex Stowell placed fifth with a 4-1 record.
Senior 190-pounder Kevin Wilson posted an 0-2 record and did not place.
The Buhler Crusaders entered seven wrestlers in the Emporia Winter Classic and all seven placed in the top three.
Buhler’s Sammy Hershberger (132 pounds), Cruz Hershberger (144) and Stryker Avery (138) placed first. Thomas Montano (150) and Jacob Burklow (175) placed second. Luke Kerns (165) and Max Harmony (157) placed third.
Nickerson’s Kristopher Monroe posted a 4-1 record and placed fourth at 165 pounds.
Nicjkerson’s Addick Nelson placed second at 126, Aiden Brinkley fourth at 113, Atton Nelson fifth at 190, Dakota Brinkley fifth at 132 and Evan Trostle sixth at 144. Killian Hedrick did not place at 138 and Connor White did not place at 150.
Three Buhler girls place first at Abilene tourney
In girls wrestling competition Thursday at the Abilene High School Invitational, Buhler’s Lillie Ledford (135A), Maliyah Jackson (140D) and Macey Parks (145A) won championships in their divisions and posted eight victories.
Ledford defeated Hays’ Addison Neuberger by a technical fall 17-2, pinned Abilene’s Kaylee Wilson (1:33) and defeated Smoky Valley’s Gracie Bradie 17-2 in a technical fall.
Jackson won her first match 2-1 over Abilene’s Lisa Antinori by the ultimate tiebreaker, won her second match by injury default over Rock Creek’s Brooke Almeda and pinned Phillipsburg’s Karissa Leonard (3:08).
Parks won her first match by pinning Smith Center’s Karper Franklin (2:48), won by medical forfeit over Chapman’s Taya Rowley and pinned Marysville’s Ella Johnson (4:11).

Hutchinson, Buhler, Nickerson and Halstead boys and girls junior varsity wrestlers teams competed at the Rose Hill Tournament Saturday.
100-110 girls A: Hutchinson’s Chloe Bell and Natalie White and placed second and third.
100-110 girls B: Aaida Brown placed first and Eco Kinast third.
106 boys A: Trevor Deister of Buhler placed first, Eli Parks of Hutchinson placed second and Nickerson’s Sean Poland placed fifth.
113A boys: Buhler’s Elijah Gutierrez placed third and Hutchinson’s Damien Nusser placed fourth.
115 girls: Hutchinson’s Isabella Castaneda and Kara Dickman placed third and fourth.
120-125 girls: Hutchinson’s Ruby Foster placed first.
120 A boys: Buhler’s Joshua Mullen placed first, Hutchinson’s Zach Allen and Eli Thomas placed second and fourth.
126B boys: Nickerson’s Owen Harris placed third.
130-140 girls: Hutchinson’s KeiRre Martinez and Emmalynn Mathias placed first and fifth.
