Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer midfielder Kaitlyn Edwards was named a First Team All-American by the NJCAA.
Edwards is just the fifth First Team selection in the history of HutchCC women’s soccer and the first since 2014. HutchCC sophomore forward Katharina Marx is a Third Team All-American by the NJCAA.
Edwards scored 10 goals and had 5 assists for 25 points. Marx scored 10 goals and had 13 assists for 33 points.
The HutchCC Blue Dragon women’s soccer team posted an 11-2-7 record during the 2024 fall season, including an 8-2-6 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play. The Blue Dragons lost to Cowley College on penalty kicks in the Region 6 championship game.
Other Jayhawk Conference players honored were Cowley College sophomore midfielder Hima Suzuki, First Team; and Kansas City Kansas sophomore midfielder Sierra Montez.
The All-America selections were made by the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee.

Area high school basketball teams ranked in first KBCA poll
The first Kansas Basketball Coaches Association high school rankings were released on Tuesday.
The Halstead girls are ranked third in Class 3A and the Haven girls are ranked sixth.
The Hutchinson Central Christian girls basketball team is ranked seventh in Class 1A Division II.
The No. 1-ranked girls teams are Overland Park-Blue Valley North, Class 6A; Topeka Seaman, Class 5A; Wellington, Class 4A; Hesston, Class 3A; Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Class 2A; Little River, Class 1A Division I; and Hanover, Class 1A Division II.
The Hutchinson Salthawk girls’ schedule includes Maize South (No. 4 in 6A girls) at home Feb. 4 and at Maize Feb. 25, Andover (No. 3 in 5A girls) on the road Feb. 28.
The Sterling boys are ranked second in Class 2A.
The No. 1-ranked boys teams are Shawnee Mission Northwest, Class 6A; Kapaun-Mount Carmel, Class 5A; McPherson, Class 4A; Wichita Collegiate, Class 3A; Moundridge, Class 2A; Monetzuma-South Gray, Class 1A Division I; Cunningham, Class 1A Division II.
The Hutchinson boys’ schedule includes Great Bend (No. 5 in 5A) at home on Jan. 17; a potential matchup with McPherson (No. 1 in 4A) at the McPherson Tournament Jan. 30-Feb. 1; Andover (No. 4 in 5A boys) on the road Feb. 28.
