Hutchinson men fall to No. 1 Barton in overtime, No. 1 HutchCC women prevail

The Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons men’s basketball team took the No. 1 Barton Community College Cougars to overtime Wednesday night at the Kirkman Activities Center in Great Bend.

The No. 1 Hutchinson women’s basketball team outscored Barton Community College 24-7 in the fourth quarter to posted a 59-43 victory Wednesday night at the Kirkman Activities Center in Great Bend.

It was the first Jayhawk Conference action for the Blue Dragons and Cougar men’s and women’s teams.

The Blue Dragon men fell to the Cougars 94-89. Barton outscored Hutchinson 12-7 in overtime.

Barton led at halftime 44-34. The Blue Dragons outscored the Blue Dragons 48-38 in the second half to send the game into overtime.

Five Blue Dragon men scored 79 points, led by Katraleus “Bo” Aldridge with 21 points. Bobby Cannon scored 17. Dimitri’s “DJ” Dudley 16, Kobe Smith 15 and Jaques Thornton 10. Thornton grabbed 9 rebounds.

Seven Barton Cougars scored in double figures and combined for 94 points, led by Keandre Lindell with 19 points.

Aris Rodriguez and Sebastian Muchitsch each scored 16 points, Brent Moss 12, Fontaine Williams 11, Modibo Sanogo 10 and Lucas N’Gombo 10. Muchitsch pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Hutchinson men dropped to 4-3 overall. The Barton men are 6-0.

In the women’s game, Barton led Hutchinson 31-24 at halftime but the Blue Dragons outscored the Cougars 11-5 in the third quarter to close the gap to 36-35.

The Blue Dragons were led by 5-foot-11 sophomore All-American forward Hailey Jackson with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals.

Kahlen Norris and Brynne Katcher each scored 12 points. Landon Forbes scored 9, Dylan Alexander 7, Jada Pleasant 4, and Katie Duncan 2.

Regina Donanu led Barton with 17 points. Vivian Onugha had 8 points and 13 rebounds. Britany Simpson scored 6 points.

The Hutchinson women improved to 7-0 overall. The Barton Cougar women fell to 4-3.

The Blue Dragon women travel to Goodland Saturday to play Fort Hays Tech Northwest (formerly Northwest Kansas Tech).

Tip-off at Max Jones Fieldhouse is 2 p.m. central time/1 p.m. mountain time.

The Hutchinson men’s first conference home game is Tuesday against Colby Community College (7:30 p.m.). The Blue Dragon men play Nov. 30 at Independence Community College (4 p.m.).

The Hutchinson women’s first conference home game is Tuesday against Colby Community College (5:30 p.m.). The Blue Dragon women play Nov. 30 at Independence Community College (2 p.m.).
