HutchCC women, men both pass 100-point mark

The No. 1 ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon women’s basketball team blasted Neosho County 122-70 Tuesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The No. 15 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragon men’s basketball team opened its 2024-25 season Tuesday night with a 104-53 victory over Hesston College at the Sports Arena.

The Hutchinson women’s basketball team (2-0) led 33-19 after one quarter, led at halftime 62-41 and 95-58 at the end of the third quarter. 

Five Blue Dragon women scored in double figures, led by All-American Hailey Jackson with 30 points. Jackson also grabbed 14 rebounds, dished off 3 assists and had 4 steals.

Brynne Katcher scored 16 points, Dylan Alexander 15, Madi Denison 12 and Katie Duncan 11. Katcher grabbed 12 rebounds. Pleasant dished off 7 assists, Forbes 5 and Alexander 3. 

Landon Forbes scored 9 points, Jada Pleasant 8, Kahlen Norris 7, Noelle Anthon 6, Honey Cooney 4, Nya Williams 2 and Jaden Wilson 2.

Tiara Hozumi led Neosho with 15 points. Jiyani Thompson scored 10 and Audrey Hendrix 9.

The HutchCC men’s team led Hesston College at halftime 49-25.

Five Blue Dragons scored in double figures, led by Bobby Cannon with 15 points. Three Dragons scored 14 points — Dimitrius “DJ” Dudley, Katraleus “Bo” Aldridge and Mikhail Abdul-Hamid. Khalil Arnold added 10 points.

Jaquez Thornton added 9 points, Isaiah Jackson 8, Kobe Smith 7, Emmanuel Okitondo 6, Aidan Wing 5 and Amari Davis 2.

Smith grabbed 10 rebounds, Cannon 8, Aldridge 7 and Okitondo 7. Smith had 7 assists, Dudley 4 and Abdul-Hamid 3. Aldridge, Arnold and Smith each had 2 steals.

Henry Snyder led Hesston College with 11 points. Jammial Hicks scored 9 and Terryon Stebbins 8. Stebbins grabbed 10 rebounds. Christian Hammons and Brycen Harris each had 3 assists. Troy Moses blocked 2 shots.

The HutchCC women and men host the BSN Tip-off Classic Friday and Saturday.

The Blue Dragon women play the Tabor College junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Murray State College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The HutchCC women compete in the Barton Community College Classic Nov. 15-16. 

The Blue Dragon men play Southwestern Christian College at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Labette Community College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Then the Blue Dragon men host Kansas City Kansas Nov. 12 and also compete in the Cougar Classic Nov. 15-16.

Season ends for HutchCC Blue Dragon volleyball team at Region 6 Tournament

The 2024 season came to an end for the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 loss to Dodge City Community College in the first round of the 2024 Region 6 Tournament Wednesday night at the Dodge City DC3 Student Event Center.

The Blue Dragon volleyball team finished the season with a 19-21 record and went 7-9 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

The Conquistadors, who posted an 11-5 league record, improved to 21-13 overall and 10-3 at home.

The Blue Dragons will graduate sophomores Shelbi Wilson, Ryleigh Stuhlsatz, McKenzie Murphy and Precious Johnson.

Delice Downing completed her fifth season at Hutchinson CC volleyball coach.

No. 3 HutchCC football team hosts Highland Saturday

The Hutchinson Community College football team remained No. 3 in the latest NJCAA Division I Football Rankings, which were released on Monday.

The 7-1 Blue Dragons play host to the Highland Scotties at noon Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

The Dragons will close the regular season with Highland and travel to Garden City on Nov. 16.

This is the 44th consecutive poll the Dragons have been ranked, which is the second-longest run in the rankings in program history.

The Blue Dragon record for consecutive weeks ranked in the polls is 45, which was set from 2010 to 2013. The Dragons have been ranked the nation’s Top 3 for 40 consecutive polls.

The nation’s Top 5 remained the same after last week’s action. Iowa Western earned all 12 first-place votes after a dominant victory over Butler last Saturday.

Georgia Military stayed at No. 2, followed by Hutchinson, Northwest Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Coffeyville’s narrow 13-12 win over Dodge City gave the Red Ravens a three-spot jump to No. 10. Butler fell four spots to No. 14 and Dodge City stayed in the rankings at No. 15.
