Reno County Sabres finish the season 6-2

The Reno County Sabres homeschool football team’s season concluded with a 6-2 record after a 32-30 loss to Eureka Friday night at Eureka.

Reno County Sabres are a Kansas Approved School and there are no state playoffs for approved schools.

Eureka led 6-0 after the first quarter and 18-8 at halftime.

Reno County scored two touchdowns to take a 22-18 lead in the fourth quarter. Eureka scored to go up 26-22 with 7:02 left. The Sabres scored on the next possession, making it 30-26 with 1:27 left. Eureka scored on a long pass with 40 seconds left in the game.

Reno County was intercepted on the 8-yard line. Eureka kneeled anytime ran out.

Sabres’ sophomore quarterback Bo Smith completed 17-of-31 passes for 159 yards with three interceptions and rushed for 177 yards on 31 carries with four touchdowns.

For the season, Bo Smith completed 147-of-250 passes for 1978 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 852 yards on 153 carries and scored 20 touchdowns.

Senior Brecken Guthrie rushed for 54 yards on 8 carries and caught 5 passes for 56 yards. Guthrie, the only senior on the team, rushed 50 times for 492 yards and 7 touchdowns and caught 44 passes for 659 yards with 7 more touchdowns.

Junior Bruce Kingsley caught 4 passes for 29 yards. He finished the season with 33 catches for 581 yards and 5 touchdowns. Freshman Beckim Neidenthal rushed for 37 yards on 4 carries.

Sophomore Jett Smith caught 37 passes for 486 yards and 9 touchdowns.
