Salthawk boys soccer team falls to Andover on sudden death penalty kicks in double overtime

Hutchinson High School's team name (Salthawks) is not used by any other American high school.

The season came to an end for the Hutchinson High School boys soccer team on sudden death penalty kicks in the second overtime Monday night against Andover.

The score was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation and after the first overtime period. Andover made 5 sudden death penalty kicks to 4 for the Salthawks in the second overtime period.

The Kansas Class 5A West Regional first-round game was played at the Salthawk Soccer Complex in Hutchinson.

Hutchinson finished the season with an 11-4-1 record.

Andover (8-9) will play Valley Center (12-3-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Valley Center in the Region 4 championship.

Valley Center defeated Arkansas City 8-0 Monday at Valley Center. Arkansas City finished the season with a 7-10 record.

HutchCC football team drops to No. 3 in NJCAA Division I

Iowa Western is the new No. 1 in the latest NJCAA Division I football poll released on Monday.

Georgia Military moved up to No. 2, Hutchinson fell to No. 3 and Northwest Mississippi jumped four spots to No. 4. Mississippi Gulf Coast is No. 5.

Hutchinson, No. 1 for seven weeks, lost to Butler Community College 27-22 last Saturday. The Blue Dragons won’t be action this Saturday because of another bye week.

Butler jumped to No. 10 from No. 13. Coffeyville is the new No. 13 and Dodge City returned to the poll after a one-week absence and is No. 15.

Garden City was dropped from the rankings. The Broncbusters used an ineligible player for seven weeks and forfeited their wins this season.

In the NJCAA Division I women’s soccer poll, Hutchinson (9-2-6) moved up the 14th from 16th. Kansas City Kansas is No. 7, Butler Community College is No. 11 and Cowley County is No. 19.

Hutch High JV, freshman football teams sweep Maize South

The Hutchinson High School junior varsity and freshman football teams swept Maize South Monday night at Gowans Stadium in their final games of the 2024 season.

The Salthawk junior varsity football team defeated Maize South 12-6. Hutchinson led at halftime 6-0.

The Hutchinson freshman football team led the Mavericks 24-6 at halftime en route to a 52-18 victory.
