Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys cross country team captures 2A regional at Marion

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys cross country team captured the 2A Marion regional meet Saturday.

The Celtics will compete in the Kansas Class 2A state cross country meet next Saturday at the Wamego Country Club.

The Celtics placed six runners in the top 21 and scored 42 points to win the regional title.

Berean Academy placed second with 49 points, followed by Moundridge 91, Marion 93, Chase County 127, Douglass 153, Wichita Central Christian Academy 165 and Classical School of Wichita 175.

Hutchinson Trinity’s Jacob Lindstrom placed first in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16 minutes, 23.2 seconds, followed by John Lindstrom, 4th, 16:50.17; Cameron Kiser, 7th, 16:59.48; Malachiey Alvarez, 13th, 17:37.39; Amrose Pennycuff, 19th, 17:59.26; and Sam Pennycuff, 21st, 18:11.63.

Three Trinity girls competed at the regional but did not qualify for state.

Mia Vega placed 31st, 23:13.07; Ciara Robinson, 43rd, 26:30.86; and Emma Martin, 48th, 28:03.47.

Berean Academy won the regional girls title with 41 points, followed by Remington 49, Hillsboro 54 and Classical School of Wichita 83.

Eureka’s Rose Buck won the girls race with a time of 19:25.25.

Season ends for Hutchinson, Buhler volleyball teams in sub-state play

The Hutchinson High School volleyball team lost to Andover Central 25-18, 26-24 Saturday in the Kansas Class 5A sub-state tournament at Andover Central.

Hutchinson finished the season 16-18.

In the Kansas Class 4A Clay Center sub-state, Buhler lost to the host team Clay Center 25-7, 25-20 in the finals. Buhler defeated Mulvane 19-25, 27-25, 25-3 in the semifinals.

Buhler finished the season 21-17.

In the Class 3A Halstead sub-state championship match, Halstead defeated Hesston 25-16, 25-20. The Dragons defeated Southeast of Saline 25-14, 25-20 in the semifinals.

Halstead will take a 38-2 record to the Class 3A state tournament.

In the Class 2A Inman sub-state, the host Teutons defeated Moundridge 25-17, 25-17 in the championship match and beat Hillsboro 25-16, 25-16 in the semifinals.

Inman will take a 39-2 record to the state tournament.

In the 2A Ellinwood sub-state, Sterling lost to eventual regional champion Ellinwood 25-13, 25-11 in the semifinals.

Pretty Prairie’s season ended with a 25-20, 25-7 loss to St. John in the semifinals of the Class 1A Division 1 sub-state.

Hutchinson Central Christian’s season came to an end with a 25-14, 25-22 loss to Axtell in the semifinals of the Class 1A Division II Hanover sub-state.
