The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the Butler Grizzlies Wednesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
It was “Pink-Out Night” at the Sports Arena. Blue Dragon volleyball fans were encouraged to wear pink to support the fight against Breast Cancer.
The Blue Dragons won the first set 25-23. Kierny Follmer got the set-winning kill.
Butler held off a Blue Dragons’ rally to take the second set 25-21. The Blue Dragons got kills from McKenzie Murphy and Atlyn Proctor and a solo block from Precious Johnson to speak the rally.
Butler CC took the third set against the Blue Dragons 25-23. Proctor got back-to-back kills to help HutchCC tie the score at 23-23. Shelby Wilson also had a key kill that cut the Grizzlies’ lead to 19-17.
In the fourth set, Hutchinson tied the score at 19-19. After the Grizzlies scored 4 points in a row to lead 23-19. Hutchinson called a timeout. The Grizzlies won the fourth set 25-23.
Hutchinson (16-18-1 overall, 5-7 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College matches) plays Seward County Community College on Friday and Pratt Community College on Saturday. Both matches start at 6 p.m. Friday night is “Parents Night” at the Sports Arena.
HutchCC wraps up the KJCCC season Oct. 30 at Barton Community College (6 p.m.) and Nov. 2 at Colby Community College (2 p.m.).
Butler CC (16-14 overall, 8-6 KJCCC) hosts Cloud County at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Power Plant in El Dorado. The Grizzlies will play at Pratt at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2.
First-round games in the Region 6 Volleyball Tournament begin on Nov. 6.
Hutchinson High volleyball team takes 3-of-4 sets against Maize
The Hutchinson High School volleyball team took 3-of-4 sets against Maize Tuesday night at the Maize gymnasium
The Salthawks won the match 23-25, 25-23, 25-2, 25-14.
Hutchinson improved to 17-17 overall. Maize fell to 17-18.
The Hutchinson High School volleyball team is the No. 13 seed for the Class 5A West regional at Site D Andover Central.
The Salthawks will play No. 4 seed Andover Central (29-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by the matchup between No. 5 Kapaun Mount Carmel (28-7) against No. 12 seed Salina South (20-16).
The sub-state winner will advance to the Kansas Class 5A state tournament Nov. 1-2 at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina. The Kansas Class 6A state tournament also will be played there.
The Kansas Class 4A and 3A state tournaments will be played the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The Kansas Class 2A and 1A Division II state tournaments will be played at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.
The Kansas Class 1A Division II state tournament will be played at White Auditorium in Emporia.
Hutch High freshman football team falls to Newton
The Hutchinson High School freshman football team lost to Newton 14-12 Monday night at Fischer Field Stadium in Newton.
Newton led at halftime 8-6.
