The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team, the defending NJCAA champions, are the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division I women’s poll released on Monday.
The Blue Dragons, 37-0 under coach John Ontjes last year, were the unanimous No. 1 pick. The Blue Dragons received all 12 first-place votes and earned 250 points.
Dodge City Community College is ranked 14th.
All-conference, All-Region 6 and NJCAA All-Tournament performer Hailey Jackson is the lone full-time starter back for the new season. Guard Kahlen Norris, guard Jada Pleasant and forward Madi Denison also are back this season.
This is the 16th time in 18 seasons under Ontjes that the Blue Dragon women were picked either first or second in the KJCCC preseason coaches’ poll.
After the Blue Dragons open on the road at NOC-Tonkawa on Nov. 1, they will play Neosho County for their home opener on Nov. 5 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons will play a scrimmage Thursday against Tabor College at the Sports Arena.
HutchCC volleyball team takes three matches on Monday
The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team swept three matches Monday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena and evened its overall record at 17-17.
The Blue Dragons defeated the Friends University junior varsity in the first match 15-16, 29-27, 25-18.
In their second match, HutchCC defeated Neosho County Community College 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.
In their third match, HutchCC defeated the McPherson College JV 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-21.
Hutchinson plays three straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference home matches this week: Butler Community College on Wednesday, Seward County Community College on Friday and Pratt Community College on Saturday. All three matches start at 6 p.m.
Wednesday night’s game against Butler is “Dig Pink Night” at the Sports Arena.
HutchCC wraps up the KJCCC season Oct. 30 at Barton Community College (6 p.m.) and Nov. 2 at Colby Community College (2 p.m.).
HutchCC men’s basketball team ranked 15th in preseason poll
The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team, which lost to Connors State in the NJCAA Tournament semifinals, is ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division I men’s basketball preseason poll.
Hutchinson, led by first-year coach Kyle Fisher, is picked to finish second in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Hutchinson received two first-place votes in the NJCAA poll.
Barton Community College, the defending NJCAA champions, are picked second in the NJCAA poll behind South Plains College, is picked to win the Jayhawk Conference.
Two other Jayhawk Conference programs are ranked in the Top 25. Garden City is No. 19 and Cowley County is No. 25. Coffeyville received votes.
The Blue Dragons open the season Nov. 5 at home at the Hutchinson Sports Arena against Hesston College.
HutchCC football team No. 1 for 7th straight week
The Hutchinson Blue Dragons (7-0) are the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division I football poll for the seventh week in a row.
The poll was released on Monday.
Butler Community College (3-3), which plays at Hutchinson at noon on Saturday at Gowans Stadium, dropped from No. 11 to No. 13. It’s “Blue Out Day” at Gowans Stadium, Fans can purchase their “Blue Out” T-shirts at the HutchCC Bookstore.
Iowa Western (6-1) is No. 2, followed by Georgia Military (7-1), Snow College (6-1) and Garden City Community College (6-1).
Navarro moved up two places to No. 11, while Tyler jumped three spots. East Central makes its first appearance in the poll this season.
The Nos. 6-10 spots along to Holmes Community College (7-0), Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (6-1), Northwest Mississippi Community College (6-1), Kilgore College (5-1) and Lackawanna College (5-2).
Navarro College (3-2) jumped up to No. 11 from No. 13 and Tyler Junior College (5-2) jumped from No. 12 from No. 15.
East Central Community College (5-2) entered the poll at No. 14. Coffeyville (4-3), which lost 40-7 to Hutchinson last Saturday, dropped to No. 15 from No. 12.
Dodge City Community College and Itawamba Junior College received votes.
Hutchinson women’s soccer team stays ranked at No. 16
The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team stayed at No. 16 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll released on Monday.
Hutchinson (9-2-5) tied No. 8 Kansas City Kansas (11-0-5) 1-1 Saturday afternoon in Kansas City.
Butler Community College (11-2-4) is ranked No. 11 in the latest poll, Cowley County (9-4-1) is ranked 19th and Barton Community College received votes.
Navarro College (13-0-1) is ranked No. 1.
