Hutchinson, Buhler girls golfers qualify for 5A, 4A state tournaments

The girl’s golf teams from Hutchinson High School and Buhler High School qualified for state tournament play next week.

The Hutchinson Salthawk girls golf team placed second at the Kansas Class 5A regional Monday at Carey Park with a 390 score and will send the four members of the team to the Class 5A state tournament Oct. 21-22 (Monday and Tuesday) at Salina Municipal Golf Course.

The Buhler Crusader girls golf team placed third at the 4A regional tournament Monday at Turkey Creek with a 341 score.

The 4A state tournament will be played Oct. 21-22 (Monday and Tuesday) at Hesston Golf Course.

Hutchinson scores from the 5A regional at Hutchinson: Ava Burlie tied 6th with a 94 and Lily Rodriguez placed 9th with a 98. Brynn Hall and Lydia Patterson tied for 10th with 99s.

5A regional team scores from Hutchinson: Hays 365, Hutchinson 390, Salina South 405, Newton 408, Goddard 408, Valley Center 462, Great Bend 562.

“I was really proud of my girls today,” said Hutchinson golf coach Charlie Pierce. “With only four varsity players, there is no wiggle room. They really had to grind today, and they sucked it up and got the job done. All four finished with top 10s.”

Buhler scores from the 4A regional at McPherson: Anika Palsrud placed 6th with an 80.

The Buhler High School girls golf team qualified for the Kansas Class 4A State Tournament next week in Hesston. The Crusaders finished third at the McPherson 4A regional, posting the best team score of the year so far. Members of the team are Anika Palsrud, Macy Miller, Addison Specht, Harlie Terrell, Juliette Shank and Paityn Weber. CREDIT BUHLER GOLF

Macy Miller placed 10th with an 85 and Addison Specht tied for 11th with an 87. Harlie Terrell and Juliette Shank tied for 14th with 89s. Paityn Weber placed 32nd with a 107.

4A regional team scores from McPherson: McPherson 326, Topeka Hayden 326, Buhler 341, Wamego 345, Holton 402, Rock Creek 413, Concordia 417, Clay Center 451.

Newton’s Naomi Koontz captured first-place individual medalist honors at the 5A regional at Hutchinson with a 70.

McPherson’s Brodie Kuhn won the first-place individual medal at the 4A McPherson regional with a 69.

The 6A state girls golf tournament will take place at Hutchinson’s Carey Park. The 3-1A meet will take place at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

KSHSAA releases regional quad assignments for lower classes

The KSHSAA has released the regional volleyball quad assignments for  Classes 3A, 2A, IA Division I and 1A Division II.

Nickerson and Haven will travel to Wichita Trinity Academy for the Class 3A quad. Also competing in the quad are Wichita Trinity Academy and Garden Plain.

The quad will begin at either 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Start times will be released soon from Wichita Trinity Academy.

Quad matches will take place in the following order: No. 13 Nickerson vs No. 4 Wichita Trinity, No. 12 Haven vs No. 5 Garden Plain, Wichita Trinity vs No. 12 Haven, Garden Plain vs No. 13 Nickerson, No. 4 Wichita Trinity vs No. 5 Garden Plain, No. 12 Haven vs No. 13 Nickerson.

Halstead is the No. 1 seed over in the Class 3A Regional Quad A and will host No. 16 Caney Valley, No. 9 Chaparral and No. 16 Belle Plaine.

On Monday, Halstead defeated Southeast of Saline 25-18, 25-9 and Smoky Valley 25-22, 25-15. The Dragons have a 33-2 record.

Halstead’s junior varsity team lost to Southeast of Saline and defeated Smoky Valley.

Inman will host Class 2A Regional Quad A and will play Alma-Wabaunsee, Elbing-Berean Academy and Solomon.

Hutchinson Trinity Catholic will compete in Class 2A Regional Quad C at Blue Rapids-Valley Heights. The Celtics will face Valley Heights, Hillsboro and Ell-Saline.

Fairfield is in Class 1A Division I Regional Quad 3 and will play Macksville and Spearville.

Pretty Prairie is in Class 1A Division I Regional Quad D and will play the host Pratt-Skyline, Kinsley and Elkhart.

Hutchinson Central Christian is in Class 1A Division II Regional Quad C and will play the host McPherson-Elyria Christian and Junction City-St. Xavier.

Burrton is in Class 1A Division II Quad D and will play against the host school Linn, Axtell and Chase.

The top two teams from each quad will advance to the sub-state rounds.

Class 4A: 7. Buhler.

Class 2A receiving votes: Haven.

Eight-Man I: 6. Little River.

Eight-Man II receiving votes: Hutchinson Central Christian.

Six-Man: 1. Cunningham.

Salthawk JV, freshman football teams sweep Campus

The Hutchinson High School Salthawk junior varsity and freshman football teams swept the Campus Colts Monday night at Gowans Stadium.

The Salthawk JV defeated the Colts 34-0. Hutchinson led at halftime 22-0.

The Hutchinson freshman squad triumphed 8-6.
