The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic and Buhler boys cross country teams placed first and second at the Sterling Invitational on Thursday, and Buhler won the girls title.
In the boys 5,000-meter race, Trinity placed first with 46 points, followed by Buhler 82, Great Bend 95, Berean Academy 105, Pratt-Skyline 167, St. John 184, Pratt 189, Hoisington 198, Haven 208, Lyons 225, Classical School of Wichita 267, Wichita Central Christian Academy 303 and Sterling 324.
“As in the past, the Sterling Invitational was once again fast and competitive. If the runners didn’t take on the challenge then they would be left behind,” said Inman cross country coach Jay Parsons. “This was definitely a test of endurance.”
“The boys varsity race was definitely fast and competitive. The first 33 runners finished under 18 (minutes) with the top 13 of those runners finishing under 17 (minutes), with the winning time being under 16 minutes (15:54.7).”
The Buhler varsity girls placed first with 41 points, followed by Berean Academy 59, Hillsboro 74, Classical School of Wichita 92 and Sterling 98.
Hutchinson Trinity’s Jacob Lindstrom won the boys 5K race with a time of 15 minutes, 54.7 seconds. Buhler’s Henry Trumpp placed second with time of 16:06.4.
Buhler’s Corbin Starkweather won the varsity girls 5K race with a time of 19:09.
Inman’s Tyler Martisko was one of the runners finishing under 17 minutes (16:35.9) and earned a medal by placing 11th. Riley Roots ran under 18 minutes (17:06.9) and placed 17th.
Inman’s Hunter Schrader ran in the boys freshman race and finished 24th with a season-best time.
Abigail Siemens and Addison Wedel competed in the girls’ varsity race finishing 34th and 48th, respectively. Both girls ran a season-best time.
Wyatt Wichert added another medal to his collection finishing third in the seventh-grade boys race. ichertran a season-best time.
Teagan Stutzman ran a season-best time, finishing 24th in the seventh-grade girls race.
In the eighth-grade girls race, Loki Turcotte ran a season-best time and finished 17th.
“All the runners have made tremendous improvement since the first of the season and especially in the last few weeks (races),” Parsons said. “The goal now is to carry those efforts (times) into the league meet next week.”
Next week, the Inman boys and girls teams will compete in the Heart of America League meet hosted by Berean Academy next Thursday at Harvey County East Park.
