Ranked Hutchinson, Butler women’s soccer teams play to 0-0 draw

A Top 20 matchup took place Wednesday night at the Salthawk Sports Complex as the No. 16 Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team took on the No. 8 Butler Community College Grizzlies.

HutchCC goalkeeper Karsyn Slothower tallied 11 saves as Hutchinson and Butler played to a 0-0 draw.

The Blue Dragons had just three shots on goal (two by Kaitlyn Edwards and one by Lorena Gomes). Butler Grizzlies’ goalkeeper Rylie Schiffelbein turned away all three attempts.

Hutchinson’s record is 7-2-4 overall (6-2-4 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference).

Butler’s record is 9-1-4 overall (9-1-2 KJCCC).

Hutchinson plays at Coffeyville Community College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and hosts Barton Community College at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.

HutchCC volleyball team falls to Dodge City in five sets

The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team lost a five-set match to Dodge City Community College Wednesday night at DC3 Student Event Center in Dodge City.

The HutchCC Blue Dragons won the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-23.

The Dodge City Conquistadors claimed the third set 25-21, the fourth set 25-21 and the fifth set 15-7.

Hutchinson dropped to 12-13 overall (3-6 KJCCC). Dodge City improved to 17-10 overall (8-2 KJCCC).

The Blue Dragons compete in the Cardinal Classic Friday and Saturday at Sechrest Fieldhouse in Park Hills, Mo.

On Friday, HutchCC plays Indian Hills Community College at noon and Vincennes University at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, the Blue Dragons play Missouri State University-West Plains at 9 a.m. and Mineral Area College at 1 p.m.

Halstead volleyball team sweeps Pratt, Larned

The Halstead High School varsity volleyball team defeated Pratt 25-10, 25-16 and Larned 25-5, 25-11 Tuesday night at Pratt.

Halstead is 27-1 overall and won the Central Kansas League title with a 7-1 league record.

Halstead senior setter Dalaina Schutte was named Ad Astra Radio’s Athlete of The Week for leading the Dragons to a 5-0 record and a championship at Saturday’s Canton-Galva Tournament, including wins over state-championship contenders Little River, Goessel and Inman.

Schutte had 139 assists, 45 dogs, 17 kills and 6 ace serves in four matches in 24 matches (not counting Tuesday night’s sweep). She had 542 assists, 81 kills, and 48 aces (which leads the state). She has more than 1,700 career assists.

The Halstead junior varsity team defeated Larned 25-23, 25-16 and Pratt 26-24, 25-18.

The Halstead C team defeated Pratt 27-29, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-3.

Monday night at Hillsboro, the Dragons’ C team defeated Moundridge 25-12, 25-15 and lost to Hillsboro 25-15, 25-21.

The Halstead Dragon volleyball teams play Pratt Thursday at Pratt.

On Saturday, the varsity competes in the Hillsboro Tournament, the JV hosts a tournament and the Halstead Middle School team competes in the Pratt Tournament.

Haven volleyball team falls to Hillsboro, Smoky Valley

The Haven High School varsity volleyball team lost to Hillsboro 25-23, 25-16 and Smoky Valley 25-23, 25-16 Tuesday night at home.

Hillsboro lost to Smoky Valley 22-25, 25-20, 28-26.

Haven competes in the Hillsboro Tournament on Saturday and will play Chapman, Halstead, Hillsboro, Minneapolis and St. George-Rock Creek.

The Wildcats host Larned on Monday on Senior Night at the Haven High School gymnasium.

The Haven junior varsity competes at the Halstead JV Tournament Saturday.

Haven will start Kansas Class 3A regional play Oct. 21.
