Salthawk boys soccer team beats defending state champs 4-3

The Hutchinson High School boys soccer team (9-1-1) defeated Maize South (9-2-0), the reigning state champions, 4-3 Tuesday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

Maize South and Hutchinson entered the showdown ranked first and third in the KSHSAA West Regional standings.

Maize South led at halftime 1-0.

Hutchinson plays at Derby Thursday, hosts Maize next Tuesday and plays at McPherson Oct. 17.

Maize South plays Maize Thursday, hosts Haysville Campus and Clearwater next Tuesday and plays at Newton Oct. 17.

In the junior varsity boys match Tuesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex, the Hutchinson Salthawks lost to Maize South 3-0. The Cougar JV led Hutchinson 1-0 at halftime.

Salthawk volleyball team 0-2 at Maize Triangular

The Hutchinson High School volleyball team lost to Maize 25-22, 16-25, 25-22 and Maize South 25-15, 25-11 Tuesday night at the Maize Triangular.

The Salthawks fell to 13-13.

Hutchinson competes at the McPherson Triangular at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Salthawks host Maize South and Valley Center at 5 p.m. next Tuesday on Senior Night and Dig Pink Night.

Hutchinson competes in the Maize Dual on Oct. 22.

Buhler girls golf team 2nd at AVCTL 3/4 tennis tourney

The Buhler High School girls golf team placed second in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 3/4 Tournament Tuesday at the Derby Golf and Country Club.

Wellington won the overall AVCTL 3/4 team title with a 338 score, followed by Buhler 343, McPherson 349, Augusta 358, Winfield 384, Rose Hill 419, Towanda Circle 419, Mulvane 429 and Andale 431.

Six Buhler golfers placed in the top 20, led by Anika Paulsrud with a 3-over-par 75, and three golfers set personal records.

Macy Miller tied for seventh with an 87, Paityn Weber tied for 14th at 90, Juliette Shank and Harlie Terrell tied for 16th at 91 and Addison Specht tied for 19th at 93.

Wichita Collegiate’s Margaret Ulrich placed first with a 3-under-par 69.

Hutchinson High seniors Ellie Foos, Ayla Booe place 2nd at AVCTL 1/2 tennis meet

The Hutchinson High School doubles teams of seniors Ellie Foos and Ayla Booe placed second at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 1/2 varsity girls tennis tournament Monday at Salina South High School.

Foos and Booe were named all-AVCTL for placing second.

The No. 2 doubles team of Addie Lewis and Payzlee Regier placed eighth. Rylee Miller was 12th in No. 1 singles and Maggie Kaplan was 13th in No. 2 singles.

Salthawk JV, freshman football teams fall to Derby

The Hutchinson High School junior varsity and freshman football team both lost to Derby Monday night at Derby’s Panther Stadium.

The Salthawks’ JV lost 46-0 and the freshman lost 35-6.

The JV team trailed at halftime 35-0 and the freshman squad trailed 28-6 at halftime.
