Blue Dragon volleyball team wins road match at Pratt CC

The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team defeated Pratt Community College 3 sets to 1 (23-25, 25-18. 25-19, 25-18) in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference match Wednesday at the Beaverdome in Pratt.

Hutchinson improved to 12-10 overall (3-3 KJCCC). Pratt dropped to 4-14 (1-4 KJCCC).

HutchCC hosts Barton Community College at 6 p.m. Saturday and Colby Community College at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.

Pratt plays at Cloud County Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday and plays at Butler Community College at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday.

HutchCC women’s soccer team shut out by Cowley 3-0

The No. 17 Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 14 Cowley County Community College at the Cowley Soccer Complex in Arkansas City.

Hutchinson dropped to 4-2-3 on the season and 3-2-3 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

The Tigers improved to 5-2-1 overall (all KJCCC matches).

Cowley connected on a free kick from about 35 yards out for the first goal of the match. The Tigers led 1-0 at halftime.

Cowley converted on another corner kick goal to take a 2-0 lead in the second half.

The Tigers scored their second goal of the second half to increase there lead to 3-0.

Cowley’s goals were scored by Mai Line Geffry, Helene Braren and Hina Suzuki. Assists were credited to Evellyn Borges and Himari Sato.

HutchCC’s Haley Rogers just missed the lower right corner of the goal from 15 yards out in the first half. Rogers had 2 of the Blue Dragons’ 5 shots on goal.

HutchCC goalkeeper Karsyn Slothower made a tough save 9 minutes into the first half on a Cowley free kick from 30 yards out. She had 2 saves for the game. Colby outshot HutchCC 14-10.

Hutchinson plays a 3 p.m. game Saturday at Garden City Community College and hosts Seward County Community College at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Cowley hosts Garden City at 5 p.m. Saturday.

HutchCC-Pittsburg State softball scrimmage time changed

The Hutchinson Community College softball team’s scrimmage at Pittsburg State University has been moved to 5 p.m. Thursday because of rain in the forecast for the weekend..

Dreiling, Warner lead SIK active football coaching wins list

Randy Dreiling and Steve Warner lead the 200+win club for active high school football coaches, according to Sports in Kansas.

Dreiling, who won seven state titles with Hutchinson High School and two with St. Thomas Aquinas, has 279 career wins and 105 losses.

Warner, the Buhler High School football coach, has a career record of 277-113 (157-52 in 18 years at Buhler).

Other members of the 200+win club are Brooks Barta, Holton, 265-66; Weston Schartz, Kapaun Mount-Carmel, 233-137; Randall Zimmerman, Junction City, 231-144; Bill Arnold, Topeka Hayden 214-66; Kevin Ayers, Little River, 211-49; Steve Tiernan, Osborne, 202-49; and Leon Miller, Frontenac, 201 wins (no losses listed).

In the 150+win club: Brandon Clark, the head coach of Derby, Class 6A’s No. 1 team, has a career record of 173-46.

In the 100+ win club: Shawnee Mission Northwest coach Bo Black, the former head coach at Great Bend High School, has a career record of 129-99.

Area volleyball roundup: Haven volleyball team 1-1 in home triangular

• The Haven High School volleyball team dropped a match to Hoisington 25-12, 25-15 Tuesday night at the Haven gymnasium but bounced back with a victory over Pratt 26-24, 25-16.

Hoisington, ranked eighth in Class 3A in the latest Kansas Volleyball Association coaches poll, defeated Pratt 25-19, 25-10.

Haven (10-9) plays Nickerson (7-12) and Larned (5-10) next Tuesday at Larned. Nickerson hosts Chapman and Smoky Valley next Thursday (Oct. 3).

• The Hutchinson Salthawks (8-7), which placed fifth in the Maize Tournament Saturday with a 2-2 record, will play at the Great Bend Triangular Thursday.

The host Great Bend Panthers are ranked 10th in Class 5A by the KVA.

Hutchinson competes at the Derby Triangular Tuesday and the Great Bend Tournament Oct. 5.

• Hutchinson Trinity Catholic (7-8) defeated Sedgwick 25-15, 14-25, 25-23 and Classical School of Wichita 25-27, 25-21, 25-19 Tuesday night.

The Celtics play Bennington Tuesday and Hutchinson Central Christian next Thursday (Oct. 3).

• Hutchinson Central Christian (4-12) plays Attica and Stafford next Tuesday at home and competes in the South Haven Tournament Oct. 5.

• Buhler (6-7) lost to Andale 25-12, 25-15 and defeated Augusta 25-14, 25-16.

• Burrton (0-14) lost to Kiowa-South Barber 25-9, 25-13 and Pretty Prairie 25-5, 25-8 at home Tuesday. Pretty Prairie defeated South Barber 25-8, 25-13.

Burrton plays Canton-Galva and McPherson Elyria Christian Thursday and Cunningham and Norwich next Tuesday.

• Halstead (16-1) has wins over four state-ranked teams and is ranked fifth in Class 3A by the KVA.

Senior Setter Dalaina Schutte has more than 1,000 career assists and 1,300 career digs. She has 356 assists and 41 ace serves this season. Schutte is committed to play volleyball at Bethel College.

Halstead’s Katharine Engel and Bailey Bernal both have more than 125 kills this season.

Halstead defeated Hillsboro and Nickerson Tuesday night. The Dragons and Smoky Valley compete in the Hoisington Triangular Tuesday and the Canton-Galva Tournament Oct. 5.

• Pretty Prairie (12-5) plays South Barber, Fairfield and Pratt-Skyline Tuesday. The Bulldogs are No. 6 in Class 1A Division I by the KVA.

• Fairfield (6-9) defeated Stafford 18-25, 25-23, 25-19 Tuesday night and lost to Norwich 25-18, 15-25, 25-22.

• Inman (15-1), which played Berean Academy Tuesday, plays at Sterling Thursday and at Moundridge Tuesday.

Inman is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A in the latest KVA poll.

• Sterling (6-6) defeated Classical School of Wichita 25-13, 25-12 Tuesday night. No score was listed from the Black Bears’ match against Sedgwick. Sterling plays Ell-Saline at Brookville on Tuesday.

• Little River (12-3), which lost its first three matches of the season, won its 12th straight match with a 25-10, 22-25, 28-26 victory over Herington Tuesday. Little River is No. 1 in Class 1A Division I by the KVA.

• Cunningham (4-7) lost to Attica 25-18, 25-9 and Pratt-Skyline 25-21, 25-16 Tuesday and competes in a tournament Saturday.

Buhler places five golfers in top 10 at home JV meet

Five Buhler junior varsity golfers medaled in the Top 10 at the Buhler JV Invitational Back 9 Tournament on Tuesday.

Kaylee Schroeder placed second, Kylie Gregg third, Madalyn Bohringer fourth, Niah Dilbeck sixth and Ava Schmidt ninth.

Little River ranked third in KEMFA coaches poll

Little River is third in the Eight-Man I in the latest Kansas Eight-Man Football Association Rankings as voted on by member Eight-Man coaches.

Hoxie is ranked first, followed by Leoti-Wichita County. Howard-West Elk is fourth and South Central is fifth.

Axtell leads the Eight-Man II poll, followed by Frankfort, Victoria, Burlingame and Hanover.
