The third-ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons won the team title at the two-day, 54-hole Bent Tree Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament hosted by Iowa Western Community College.
The Blue Dragons shot rounds of 280, 283 and 289 to win the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Tuesday with a 12-under-par score of 852. HutchCC led by 17 strokes after the 36-hole first day of tournament play on Monday.
Nebraska Wesleyan placed a distant second with a 9-over-par 873. Tournament host Iowa Western was third at 885. Barton Community College placed eighth with a 73-over-par score of 937.
Blue Dragon golfers claimed first, second and third place in the individual medalist competition.
Freshman Jack Northgraves posted an 8-under-par 208 (66-70-72) to place first in the individual standings and led the Blue Dragon men’s golf team to their 21-stroke victory.
HutchCC’s David Razinkas (69-72-72) and Charlie Box (70-73-70) posted 3-under-par scores of 213 to place second and third.
Hutchinson’s Louis Ross placed 11th with a 5-over-par score of 221 (78-68-75) and Jayden Carruthers placed 18th with a 10-over-par score of 226 (75-75-76).
Cal Schultz tied for 22nd with a 12-over-par score of 228 (80-75-73) and Tyler Walker tied for 33rd with a 18-over-par score of 234 (77-76-81).
The Blue Dragons’ third fall tournament will be next Monday and Tuesday at the Grier Jones Shocker Classic at Sand Creek Station in Newton.

Salthawk boys soccer team clips Goddard Eisenhower 4-3
The Hutchinson High School Salthawk varsity boys soccer team handed the Goddard Eisenhower Tigers a 4-3 loss Tuesday night at Goddard.
The Salthawks, who led at halftime 3-1, improved their record to 4-2.
Hutchinson plays at Buhler Monday and hosts Valley Center on Oct. 3.
Buhler (4-3) lost to McPherson 3-0 Tuesday night and plays at Valley Center Thursday.
The Hutchinson junior varsity boys soccer team tied Goddard Eisenhower 0-0.
Hutchinson’s Ava Burlie places 6th at Salina South Invitational
Ava Burlie shoots an 85 to finish sixth overall in the Salina South Invitational Monday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Hutchinson’s Lily Rodriguez tied for 26th place with a 102, Brynn Hall tied for 37th at 106 and Lydia Patterson placed 40th at 107.
The Salthawk girls golf team finished sixth out of 12 teams with a 400 score.
Maize won the team title with a 339 score, followed by Bishop Carroll at 351, Manhattan 371, Goddard Eisenhower 381 and Hays 386.
Newton placed seventh with a 401 score, followed by Salina South 426, Derby 427, Concordia 437, Dodge City 489 and Salina Central 547.
Maize’s Kinslea Jones won first-place medalist honors with a 2-under-par 68 score.
Buhler varsity girls golf team wins Cheney Invitational
The Buhler varsity girls golf team won the team title Tuesday at the Cheney Invitational.
The tournament took place at the Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney.
Buhler’s Anika Paulsrud placed second, Macy Miller sixth, Juliette Shank eighth and Addison Specht 12th.
The Crusaders competed at the Circle Invitational on Monday at Willowbend Golf Club in Wichita.
Kaylee Schroder and Ashlyn Bounds placed seventh as a two-person team. Alexas Julian won the long drive competition.

Halstead volleyball team beats Nickerson, Hillsboro
The Halstead High School varsity volleyball team defeated Nickerson 25-13, 25-16 and Hillsboro 25-15, 25-22 Tuesday night on Senior Night and Rec Night at the Halstead gymnasium.
Hillsboro defeated Nickerson 25-12, 26-24.
The Halstead junior varsity squad defeated Nickerson 25-15, 25-20.
The Halstead JV football team shut out Nickerson 37-0.
Salthawk JV football team falls to Maize, freshman team wins
On Monday, the Hutchinson High School Salthawk junior varsity football team lost to Maize 26-14 and the Hutchinson freshman team beat Maize 42-6.
