The No. 18-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team shut out the Coffeyville Red Ravens 3-0 Friday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex in Hutchinson.
HutchCC improved to 4-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.
The Blue Dragons scored the first goal of the game when Kaitlyn Edwards headed in a corner kick assist from Haley Rogers for her sixth goal of the season.
Rogers scored from point-blank range off a deflected shot by Edwards for the Blue Dragons’ second goal of the game and a 2-0 HutchCC lead.
In the second half, Rogers scored her second goal of the game, ripping a shot from 12 yards out. Katherina Marx got the assist. The Blue Dragons extended their lead to 3-0.
HutchCC plays Barton Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Great Bend.

Blue Dragon volleyball squad falls to Broncbusters on the road
The Hutchinson Community College volleyball fell on the road five sets to Garden City Wednesday night in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matchup at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.
The Blue Dragons took the first set from the Broncbusters 25-20, but Garden City rallied from a 15-9 deficit to take the second set 27-25 and claimed the third set 25-15.
HutchCC won the fourth set 25-19 to tie the match at 2-2. Atlyn Proctor had the game-winning kill. The fifth set went to the Broncbusters 15-9.
The HutchCC volleyball team is off Saturday.
The Blue Dragons host Cloud County on “Blue Out Night” at 6 p.m. next Wednesday (Sept. 18) in their home-opener at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Friday night area high school football games for Sept. 13
The Hutchinson Salthawks will host the Valley Center Hornets at 7 p.m. Friday at Gowans Stadium in their first home game of the season.
It’s Hometown Heroes Night and Gold Rsh Night for the Salthawks.
Across town, the Hutchinson Trinity Celtics host Sedgwick and Hutchinson Central Christian plays at Canton-Galva.

Buhler cross country runners of the week: Audrey Foster, Zayden Mendenhall
Buhler High School’s cross country team named its Girls Runner of the Week and Boys Runner of the Week for the first week of the season, according to the Buhler Cross County Facebook page.
The Buhler Girls Runner of the Week is Audrey Foster, who stepped on the scene last year as a key contributor helping the girls finish fourth at state.
“This year, she started the season out with an exceptional race finishing as our second runner helping the girls to a fifth-place team finish out of 11 teams,” said Buhler cross country coach Curtis Morgan on the Buhler Facebook page.
The Buhler Boys Runner of the Week is Zayden Mendenhall, a freshman who ran his first-ever cross country race and exceled.
“He finished second overall in the C team race out kicking several competitors in the final 100 meters of the race,” Morgan said. “Watch out as this freshman learns this new sport. The sky’s the limit in the potential that he has.”
Hutchinson Salthawk girls golf team 5th at Salina Central meet
The Hutchinson High School varsity girls golf team placed fifth at the Salina Central Invitational Tuesday at the Salina Municipal course with a 396 score.
Manhattan won the tournament title with a 310 sore, followed by Wichita Bishop Carroll 342, McPherson 346 and Newton 375. Junction City and Concordia both scored 418, followed by Hays 425, Salina South 433, Clay Center 434 and Derby 435.
The Salthawks’ top golfer in the tournament was Ava Burlie, who tied for 18th place with an 89. Lily Rodriguez placed 24th with a 95. Bryant Hall tied for 30th with a 103. Lydia Patterson tied for 36th with a 109. Kara Cape placed 45th with a 114.
Newton’s Naomi Koontz captured first-place individual honors with a 5-under-par 65. Manhattan’s Kat (Lainey) Ball placed second with a 71, followed by Concordia’s Mya Niehues 72 and Manhattan’s Maddie Myers 74.
McPherson’s Andi Buschboom and Manhattan’s Emily Wuggazer both shot 77s for a fifth-place tie.
Buhler girls golf team 9th at Andover Central Invitational
The Buhler High School varsity girls golf team placed with at the Andover Central Invitational Tuesday at Sierra Hills Golf Course with a 344 score.
Buhler’s top golfer was Addison Specht, who tied for 24th with an 80. Paityn Weber tied for 29th with an 83. Marcy Rosenberger tied for 43rd with a 90. Kaylee Schroeder tied for 48th with a 91. Madalyn Bohringer tied for 50th with a 93. Ashlyn Bounds tied for 60th with a 99.
Andover won the tournament with a nine-hole score of 268 and claimed the top three individual places (Regan Dusenberry 58, Grier Hand 68 and Isabel Hawley 68).
Emily Meyer tied for 11th at 74 and Sydney McLain was 19th at 78.
Goddard-Eisenhower placed second with a 301 score, followed by Augusta 307, Andover Central 309, Maize South 315, Hesston 327, Goddard 334 and Circle 342.
Andale placed 10th at 349, followed by Rose Hill 351, Valley Center 388 and Wellington 436.
Salthawk volleyball team drops matches at Campus Triangular
The Hutchinson High School volleyball team lost both of its matches Tuesday night at the Haysville Campus Triangular.
The Salthawks lost to the Campus Colts in two sets 25-12, 25-20 and the Salina South Cougars 20-25, 28-26, 25-21.
Reno County Sabres volleyball teams sweep Sunrise Christian
The Reno County Sabres homeschool volleyball teams swept all five of their matches Tuesday night at home against Wichita Sunrise Academy’s prep teams.
The Sabres play their home matches at the Journey Church Activity Center, 808 South Poplar Street in South Hutchinson.
The Sabres’ high school varsity team won 3-of-5 sets, the high school junior varsity went 2-0, the junior high school A team won 2-of-3 sets and the junior high school B and C teams both went 2-0.
“Big wins for all of our volleyball teams last night at home versus Sunrise Christian,” said Sabres’ coach Cari Smith. “Thanks to everyone who came out to support these ladies.”
The Sabres play Tuesday against Central Christian and Pretty Prairie at the Central Christian High School gymnasium.
KEMFA rankings: Little River football team 4th in Eight-Man I
Little River is ranked fourth in Kansas Eight-Man I in the just-released Week 2 Kansas Eight-Man Football Association rankings.
Hoxie is No. 1, followed by Leoti-Wichita County and Howard-West Elk. South Central is ranked fifth.
Axtell is No. 1 in Eight-Man II, followed by Frankfort, Victoria, Burlingame and Hanover.
