Two upset victories and a school-record-tying performance have led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Players of the Week honors for Hutchinson’s Waymond Jordan Jr., Highland’s Javen Augustus and Coffeyville’s Roan McCarthy.
Running back Waymond Jordan Jr. had another huge game as No. 1 Hutchinson defeated No. 2 Iowa Western 38-37 on Saturday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Blue Dragon sophomore running back rushed for 174 yards on 24 carries and 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Jordan has now had back-to-back 170-plus yards games.
Jordan also won the award for Week 1.
Defensive Player of the Week was a beast on the defensive line for No. 13 Highland Community College as the Scotties knocked off #8 Iowa Central 14-13 in Fort Dodge, IA to get off to a 2-0 start this season.
Through two games against NJCAA D1 opponents, Highland is allowing just 6.5 points per game defensively, the third best among NJCAA D1 schools who have played multiple games against NJCAA D1 schools this year.
Red Raven freshman place-kicker McCarthy is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
McCarthy couldn’t miss as the Red Ravens defeated the Cisco Wranglers 37-19.
In the game, McCarthy was perfect as he drilled all 3 field goal attempts (28, 38 and 57 yds) including a team record-tying 57-yarder while also converting all 4 extra point attempts. For the afternoon, McCarthy contributed 13 points in the victory.
Other offensive players nominated were Jaylin Williams, Butler; Tre’avis Jones, Coffeyville; and Dariyonne Bryant, Highland.
Other defensive players nominated were Deairich Jackson, Coffeyville; and Avian Rice, Hutchinson.
Butler’s Da’Realyst Clark was nominated for Special Teams Player of the Week.
HutchCC’s Artmann, Butler’s Schiffelbein honored as KJCCC D1 Soccer Players of the Week
Hutchinson Community College midfielder Kira Artmann and Butler Community College goalkeeper Rylie Schiffelbein were named KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for week three of the 2024 season.

Artmann had a four-point week in a 1-1 week for the No. 18 Blue Dragons.
After providing an assist as part of a 3-0 victory over Dodge City on Wednesday night, Artmann had a goal and an assist against No. 10 Butler in a 3-2 loss to the Grizzlies.
Schiffelbein registered a career-high nine saves, allowing just one goal as the Grizzlies earned a 1-1 draw at No. 12 Kansas City on Wednesday evening.
Thwarting two Blue Devil breakaways in the second half before seeing KCKCC draw even in the final 75 seconds of the match, Schiffelbein and the Grizzlies capped off their week with a 3-2 home victory over Hutchinson.
Once again in goal for Butler, Schiffelbein was spectacular by making eight saves with several in highlight fashion. Schiffelbein is now 3-0-2 on the season with a 0.95 goals-against average in 380 minutes played.
Other players nominated were Katie Potter, Barton; London Ingram, Butler; and Tara Knego, Dodge City.
Hutchinson goalkeeper Karsyn Slothower also was nominated.
