The Hutchinson Community College football team (2-0) is again No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I rankings after beating last week’s No. 1 team Iowa Western 38-37 Saturday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
This is Week 3 of the NJCAA Division I poll.
Iowa Western (1-1) is now No. 2, followed by Snow College, Utah (3-0), and Kilgore, Texas (1-0). Mississippi Gulf Coast (2-0) at No. 5 joined the Top 5 for the first time this season.
Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools Highland Community College (2-0) and Garden City Community College (1-1) are ranked 11th and 15th.
Nos. 6-10 are Trinity Valley Community College, Navarro College, East Mississippi Community College, Georgia Military College and Jones College.
Iowa Central Community College, HutchCC’s opponent next Saturday, is ranked 12th. Kickoff is noon at Gowans Stadium.
Lackawanna College is ranked 13th.
Butler Community College received votes in the poll as did Itawamba Community College, Holmes Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College.
College of DuPage is the No. 1 team in the NCAA Division III poll, followed by Minnesota West Community and Technical College, North Dakota State College of Science, Nassau Community College and Hudson Valley Community College.
Rochester Community College received votes.
HutchCC women’s soccer team remains at No. 18 in NJCAA poll
The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team stayed at No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings after a 3-0 victory over a much-improved Dodge City team and a 3-2 road loss at No. 10 Butler last week.
The Blue Dragons now are 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.
The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 12 consecutive polls since the 2023 preseason poll.
That’s the second-longest consecutive streak of weeks being ranked in the national rankings since being ranked in 15 consecutive polls in 2009 and 2010.
The Blur Dragons host to Coffeyville at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. The Dragons will travel to Barton at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Great Bend.
Thanks to Dodge City’s Sunday 4-3 victory over previous-No. 9 Cowley, the order of KJCCC teams in the Top 20 have been shaken up.
Butler (3-0-2) is the highest-ranked KJCCC team at No. 8. Kansas City (5-0-1). Cowley (2-1) drops five spots to No. 14. Barton is receiving votes in this week’s poll.
The Top 5 remained the same this week with Iowa Western leading the way, followed by Eastern Florida State, Tyler, Navarro and Seminole State.
Johnson County is No. 3 in the NJCAA Division II poll with a 3-0-3 record and Neosho County is No. 18 at 2-1.
Northwest Mississippi is No. 1 with a 3-0 record.
Dallas College Brookhaven is No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III poll with a 1-2 record.
Barton 4th in NJCAA Division I volleyball poll
In the NJCAA Division I volleyball poll released Monday, Barton Community College is ranked fourth with a 10-0 record and Colby Community College is ranked seventh at 9-1.
Receiving votes were Dodge City Community College and Northwest College.
The top two teams in the new NJCAA Division II volleyball poll are Cowley County Community College (4-0) and Johnson County Community College (10-0). Kansas City Kansas (6-4) is ranked No. 23.
Dallas College Eastfield is the No. 1-ranked team in the new NCAA Division III volleyball poll with a 10-0 record.
Week 1 football rankings: KSHSAA Uncovered, Wichita Eagle
Despite a 37-7 loss to Andover Central in Week 1, the Hutchinson High School football team is listed among “others” in Class 5A in the first KSHSAA Covered rankings released on Sunday.
Buhler (1-0) is the only ranked Reno County and Hutchinson Tribune area school by KSHSAA Uncovered. The Crusaders are ranked fifth in Class 4A.
The No. 1-ranked teams in the state are Derby (1-0), Class 6A; Mill Valley (1-0), Class 5A; Andover Central (1-0), Class 4A; Topeka Hayden (1-0), Class 3A; Norton (1-0), Class 2A; Conway Spring (1-0), Class 1A; Hoxie (1-0), Eight-Man I; Axtell (1-0), Eight-Man II; and Cunningham (1-0), Six-Player or Six-Man.
Hutchinson hosts No. 1 Derby on Oct. 4 (Homecoming Night) at Gowans Stadium. This Friday, the Salthawks host the Valley Center Hornets.
Hutchinson Tribune area teams receiving “others” consideration are Inman (1-0), Class 1A; and Hutchinson Central Christian (0-1), Eight-Man II.
The Wichita Eagle’s Taylor Eldridge released his Week 1 rankings Monday morning.
The Hutchinson Salthawks are listed as one of the “next five out” teams in the Class 5A Top 10.
Buhler is ranked No. 6 in Class 4A. The Crusaders (1-0) play at Augusta Friday.
The Haven Wildcats (1-0) are listed as one of the “next five out” teams in Class 2A.
Little River (1-0) is ranked third in Eight-Man I. Hutchinson Central Christian (0-1) is listed as one of the “next five out teams.”
The No. 1 teams in the Wichita Eagle rankings are Derby, Class 6A; Mill Valley, Class 5A; Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege, Class 4A; Cheney, Class 3A (likely headed to two more showdowns with No. 2 Andale); Norton, Class 2A; Conaway Springs, Class 1A; Wichita County-Leoti, Eight-Man I; Axtell, Eight-Man II; and Cunningham, Six-Man.
Kansas State jumps to 14th in AP Top 25 college football poll, Kansas drops out
On the strength of a 34-27 victory over Tulane Saturday, the Kansas State University Wildcats climbed from 17th to 14th in the latest Associated Press Top 25 college football poll released on Sunday.
It is Week 3 of the AP Top 25 poll.
The Kansas Jayhawks dropped out of the AP college football poll from No. 20 after a turnover-plagued loss to Illinois in Champaign Saturday.
Illinois now is listed among other teams receiving votes and has enough votes to be in 26th place. Kansas is in 33rd place.
Other Big 12 programs ranked are Utah, No. 12; Oklahoma State, No. 13; Arizona, No. 20; Iowa State, No. 21.
The Southeastern Conference owns six of the top seven spots in the poll: Georgia, No. 1; Texas, No. 2; Alabama, No. 4; Ole Miss, No. 5; Missouri, No. 6 and Tennessee, No. 7. Oklahoma is 15th and LSU 16th.
Tennessee moved up seven spots from No. 14.
Big 10 schools in the poll are Ohio State, third; Penn State, eighth; Oregon, ninth; and Nebraska, 23rd.
After Northern Illinois upset Notre Dame 16-14 at South Bend Saturday, the Fighting Irish dropped to 18th in the Top 25 and the NIU Huskies moved into the No. 25 spot.
Kansas State is ranked 15th in the American Football Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll released Monday.
Kansas, formerly the No. 20 program in the AFCA D1 poll, now is listed in the middle of the schools receiving votes.
Other Big 12 Conference programs in the AFCA D1 Top 25 are Utah, 10th; Oklahoma State, 14th; Arizona, 18th; and Iowa State, 23rd.
The SEC again dominates the AFCA poll, led by Georgia, first; Texas, third; Alabama, fourth, Mississippi, fifth; Missouri, eighth; Oklahoma, 14th; and LSU, 17th.
Nebraska from the Big 10 Conference is ranked 24th.
Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska are former Big 12 schools.
Pittsburg State, Emporia State, Fort Hays State ranked in AFCA D2 Top 25 Coaches Poll
Pittsburg State University is ranked fourth in the Week 1 American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll released on Monday.
The Gorillas improved to 2-0 after defeating Missouri Southern 42-17 Saturday. Pittsburg State will host No. 21 Emporia State University next Saturday.
The Emporia State Hornets defeated Angelo State, formerly ranked No. 24 in the AFCA D2 preseason poll, 17-12 last weekend.
The Hornets’ roster features Haven High School alumnus Darby Roper, who was a starting wide receiver and kick returner at Hutchinson Community College for 21 games during the 2022-23 season.
Roper was a member of the 2023 HutchCC team that lost to East Mississippi College 27-23 in the NJCAA Division I semifinals.
Fort Hays State University is ranked No. 25 after defeating Missouri Western 30-16 Saturday. The Tigers, who weren’t ranked in the AFCA D2 preseason poll, play at Northwest Missouri State next weekend.
Northwest Missouri State dropped out of the Top 25 after losing its season opener.
The top three teams in the AFCA D2 poll are Harding (Ark.), Central Missouri State University and Grand Valley State (Mich,).
The top three teams in the latest AFCA FCS Coaches Poll are South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Montana State. Villanova is fourth and Idaho fifth.
