The Hutchinson High School varsity volleyball team won both of its matches Tuesday at a triangular Tuesday night at the Salthawk Activity Center.
The Salthawks defeated Liberal in two sets (25-15, 25-8) and Haysville Campus 2 sets to 1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-23).
The Salthawks improved to 5-2.
The Salthawk junior varsity volleyball team lost to Liberal 2 sets to 1 (23-25, 25-20, 15-8) and Campus 25-22, 25-19.
In other area volleyball matches, Halstead defeated St. John 25-14, 25-15 and Burrton 25-8, 25-0.
Halstead is ranked sixth in Class 4A in the first Kansas Volleyball Association poll of the 2024 season.
Inman is ranked first in Class 2A.
Salthawk girls golf team 2nd at Derby invite
The Hutchinson High School girls golf team placed second at the Derby Invitational Tuesday at the Derby Country Club.
Maize won the team title with a 169 score, followed by Hutchinson 195, Newton 196, Goddard-Eisenhower 197, Derby 216, Mulvane 231 and Arkansas City 264.
Hutchinson’s Ava Burle tied for fourth in the individual standings with nine-hole score of 44 and Brynn Hall tied for 10th with a 48.
Hutchinson’s Lily Rodriguez placed 16th with a 50 and Lydia Patterson ted for 18th at 53.
Newton’s Naomi Koontz wad the first-place individual medalist with a 31, followed Maize golfers Kinslea Jones and Charlotte Kerns at 35 and 41.
Buhler girls tennis team places 3rd at Wellington varsity meet
The Buhler High School girls tennis team placed third at the Wellington varsity meet Tuesday.
Emily Allen placed first at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Addy Tech and Hannah Kinast placed first.
Kylee Bradshaw placed third at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Payton Thompson and Payton Barnes placed fourth.
