Salthawk volleyball team opens season with AVCTL tourney at home

The Hutchinson High School volleyball team returns several players from the 2023 team that posted a 9-23 record, said coach Josie Armstrong.

“We graduated two seniors last year and have everyone else back this year including Grace Posch, our senior libero, and Myka Thompson, our junior setter,” Armstrong said.

“Other players (being counted on) include Avery Meier, Bryten Ashcraft, Ceilidh Rimbey, Kaia Smith, Brinley Smith and Kailey Kitston.”

The Salthawk volleyball team opens the 2024 season with the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Preseason Tournament next Saturday at the Salthawk Activity Center.

The tournament starts at 9 a.m.

Also competing in the tournament are Buhler, Garden City, Emporia, Valley Center and Wichita Kapuan Mount Carmel.

Hutchinson will play five matches Saturday (all on Court 3). The Salthawks will play Garden City, Emporia, Valley Center, Kapaun and Buhler.

The Salthawks host the Hutchinson Triangular and Youth Volleyball Night at 5 p.m. on Sept. 3.

The Salthawks compete in the Campus Triangular Sept. 10, Salina South Triangular Sept. 17, Maize Tournament Sept. 21, Great Bend Triangular Sept. 26, Derby Triangular Oct. 1, Great Bend Tournament Oct. 5, Maize Triangular Oct. 8 and McPherson Triangular Oct. 12.

The Salthawks will host the Hutchinson Triangular on Oct. 15. It’s also Senior Night and Dig Pink Night.

The final regular-season matches for the Salthawk volleyball team is Oct. 22 at the Maize Dual.

The Class 5A sub-state tournaments are Oct. 26 and the Class 5A state tournament is Nov. 1-2 at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
