Hutchinson Fire Marshall Michael Cain said that until they get to talk to some possible witnesses, they can’t give an update about what caused the fire at the mattress recycling business at 2404 East 4th Street in Hutchinson, KS.
“We are waiting on police finding people to talk to,” said Cain. “There are a couple of different agencies looking for a couple of different people. But finding them is proving to be difficult because addresses are from three different counties,” said Cain.
What caused the fire and what happened is still under investigation and Cain said, “Part of the investigation is witness statements and if we can’t get that, we are at a stand-still.”
Cain said that when the fire department can’t get the information, they turn it over to the police because the police have better resources to generally find people. When the police find them, then the two departments talk with the witnesses or suspects together. It doesn’t necessarily mean an accusation of arson or conviction.
As for what happened or what caused the fire, Cain said that they can’t make an official decision until they talk to people.
Cain said that if anyone knows anything about this fire, to contact the fire department or the police department. The owner of the business is also offering a $5,000 reward.
