The old St. Elizabeth Hospital was officially demolished and received asbestos abatement in the fall of 2024. Demolition work began on Sept. 11, 2024. The land that the old property once sat on at 20th and Monroe is empty and filled with dirt.
In September, the Reno County Commission approved Interfaith Housing Inc.’s reallocation of funds to demolish St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Demolition started on Sept. 11, 2024.
Interfaith Housing plans to build 14 family units on the property. There may be a potential for 20 family units if land is acquired according to renocounthousing.com.
ARPA funding contributed to helping fund the project.
“We’ve been able to use ARPA funding to not only make the site safe again but also to envision a future where it becomes part of the solution to Hutchinson’s housing shortage,” Clint Nelson, Interfaith Housing President and CEO said in a story on the Reno County Housing website. “We’ve recycled much of the material from the demolition, and now we’re focusing on redeveloping the land with single-family homebuyer units that will address a critical need for workforce housing.”
The final demolition of the building was finished on Oct. 11, 2024.
Interfaith Housing’s mission is to help alleviate and build community through housing assistance.
