Severance Street between 17th and 23rd Avenues is set to open late Wednesday afternoon, according to Mayor Greg Fast.

“Part of the delay has been letting the concrete cure and letting the contractors clean up,” Fast said. “That should be open the end of the day on the 7th.”

The street has been closed since April 18 and has undergone several delays in repair due to weather and contractor hiring.

“On April 18, a significant break occurred in the 24-inch waterline under Severance Street,” a city press release read from April 27. “Immediate repair efforts included the installation of a clamp on the damaged section. Unfortunately, the initial clamp was not able to completely seal the leak.”

In May 2024, Water Maintenance Superintendent Richard Buller gave an update on the repair and said the repair was unique due to the size of the pipe underneath the street.
